Painting update

KITCHEN

The kitchen has had it's final coat of 'Beluga song' - kinda lilac kinda grey:

STAIRS & LANDING

First mist coat has gone onto the plaster today. Looking pretty good. Needs 1 more mist coat and then 2 coats of colour. Looking at a very faint offwhite as the Dulux Brilliant white is very white. Options are: Dulux Jasmine White, Dulux polished pebble, or Fine Cream. 

Once colour is on we need to refresh skirtings and then get the new carpet in. 

LOUNGE

The ceiling is now completely painted and finished as are the cornices. The walls have had 2 coats of mist and until we sort the potential damp issue we will hold. The skirting boards and architrave need refreshing and the doors looking at. And of course the new floor.

Bedroom update

This is what the bedroom looked like on Day 1:

All that is left to do here is:

- paint over skirting

- fit new floors

- fix door or replace & refresh architrave

- get curtains or blinds

Our appliances have arrived!

After 10 days without a fridge, freezer, washing machine or cooker everything arrived this weekend.

Thanks to Andy we have managed to connect them without paying for the charge, and everything seems to be working so far! Fingers crossed.

Bosch washer/dryer and Zanussi freezer and the utility room looks a dream!

Zanussi fridge, Bosch dishwasher and Zanussi induction cooker in the kitchen. Not tried out the dishwasher yet (that is Mark's job!).

Only thing left is to go to the recycling centre and get rid of all the packaging!

Painting mist coats in the bedroom

We have now painted 2 mist coats of white emulsion in the main bedroom. Just need to do 2 coats of colour now.

Thinking of the Farrow & Ball Ringwold Ground colour, has warm red undertones. 

Investigating the loft

The chimney stack looks pretty stacked & normal to me! Everything looking dry... How exciting.

In the right hand corner of the loft picture above is a very heavy chest! It is a chest of treasures - literally left by a previous owner from many many years ago. Apparently it is full of vintage silverware and glassware. How exciting. We have recovered a silver cake stand (will polish it up and then post pic),

The floorboards in the loft aren't very stable, so you have to be very careful so as to not break them and then make a massive hole in the ceiling (like my ex-flatmate did many years ago!): 

Mark climbed up there, I however chose not too... Coward!

Livable?

I think the house is just about livable.

Mark and I had our first respective showers today- not as brilliant as our previous flat shower but does the job.

The lounge is looking livable?

Really missing the sofas. Especially when you are ill and can't lie down on sofa.

And I didn't have a flower vase so I used the tea caddy instead:

Moving day update

Luckily all the plasterwork is done.

The utility room has been retiled:

Day 23 Plastering again, the house is humid!

All the water from the plaster is evaporating and a lot of moisture everywhere.

Plasterer has opened all windows upstairs to help speed up drying process.

Bedroom 1 is drying up:

Day 22 Plastering again and electrics are finished.

I think the electrics are finished, just waiting for a report from the boss.

Entrance hall and fuseboard

The new motion detector in the entrance hall was installed, however it caused the alarm to go off every time someone walked past it. They have disabled the alarm as it probably needs resetting:

Apparently there are some wires around the alarm area that do not have the correct type of insulation (I am not sure what the word for this was) that the electrician was not too happy about. He will contact us to talk about it.

The electricians have removed the light at the bottom of the stairs and replaced with a simple light. You can also see the ceiling has been plastered in the stairwell:

Kitchen

They have wired in the extraction fan, so that is proper now.

The sockets above the dishwasher unit/to the right of the sink. We have discovered the function of the unknown plug (in white) :

The plug in pic above is basically an extension cable to the single socket that was on the left of the sink (that connected to the water pump,, pic below). They have replaced single socket with double socket, but weren't too pleased with how it was connected up to other socket, but without taking apart kitchen it is hard to rectify... (Hard to explain this).

I think that is all for today.... 

Plasterer was busy at work when I left him at 6pm so he will be there again tomorrow.

The electricians have now finished the jobs from the initial list.
